Living with neighbourhood noise
The project starts with the tension between dense urban living and the need for a quiet personal space. Research into neighbourhood noise led to a sculptural soundscape: a temporary place to pause, listen and redirect attention.
A cave-like shelter
Cave-like enclosures, porous surfaces and fibrous textures informed the form. The portfolio records studies of reindeer lichen, perforated slate and volcanic rock, followed by digital models, frame tests and physical construction experiments. The white and green masses combine an enveloping structure with a tactile, organic surface.
Sensing and composing the soundscape
An Arduino Uno connects light sensing, noise-level sensing and an MP3 player. The interaction diagram distinguishes daytime and evening conditions and uses detected noise to trigger playback. The composed soundscape combines water, steady melodic tones, wind chimes, forest ambience and birds. These sounds form an artistic response to the surrounding environment.
From prototype to installation
The images trace structural tests, electronic and audio development, and the final installation proposal. Research, digital modelling, frame construction and sound composition come together in a space that responds to changes in its surroundings.
An organic white-and-green cluster is presented within a park setting. The central form opens into an enveloping space; smaller surrounding forms extend its relationship to the site.
The close view separates the sculpted enclosure, porous white surface and fibrous green texture. It shows how the material studies informed the digital model.
The physical frame test explores how a lightweight structure could support the irregular enclosing form before the surface material is applied.
A close view of the porous white enclosure, green textures and internal rods.
Material research, natural sound references, structural modelling and sensor logic are collected in this original research sheet. The written sections above provide a readable translation; open the image to inspect individual diagrams.
